Parent Expectations

Parent Expectations

  1. Serve as a good role model to our players and positively represent Jr. Dukes Baseball and Whitefish Bay.
  2. Support the team and your players, no matter the situation.  We will not win every game, nor will we lose every game.  Yelling, screaming or directing negative comments at any player is prohibited. Mistakes will happen. No one knows that they have made a mistake more than the player that just made it. Amplifying that mistake is counterproductive. Negative comments directed toward players interferes with the coaches’ ability to manage the game, creates a toxic atmosphere, puts unnecessary pressure on the team, and dampens the players’ love of the game.
  3. Respect all umpires.  Umpires will miss calls.  Directing any comments to an umpire is never acceptable and will not be tolerated.  Each coach is more than capable of dealing with bad calls directly with an umpire without the involvement of parents.  Be mindful that yelling at an umpire may actually harm your team, rather than help.
  4. Respect all coaches and assistants.  Our coaches are volunteer parents and fellow members of our community.  The coaches are unpaid and donate significant time to help our kids become successful baseball players.  Do not interfere with the coaches’ management of the team during games. If you have a concern with a coach, please wait 24 hours before privately approaching the coach with any concern you have. Only escalate your concerns to Jr. Dukes Baseball leadership after you have made a good faith effort to resolve your concern with the coach.
  5. While we are committed to developing all Jr. Dukes players, coaches need to balance winning games with player development. We empower our coaches, in consultation with their assistants, to make decisions regarding the batting order, defensive assignments and the pitching rotation.  Just because your child plays shortstop and pitches on their Little League team does not mean that they will do so on their Dukes team.  If a question arises regarding playing time, the batting order, defensive assignments or pitching opportunities, please privately, calmly and respectfully approach the coach at an appropriate time (avoid doing so minutes after a close loss, for example).
  6. Maintain perspective.  The Brewers are not scouting the Jr. Dukes.  Relax and enjoy watching them play!  Celebrate the good things that happen and help your child learn from their mistakes.
